Ohio’s democracy is on the line! We need everyone showing up to the polls on August 8 to Vote No on Issue 1.
What is Issue 1?
Issue one shreds Ohio’s Constitution, ending majority rule and taking away our right to decide what happens in our state. It undermines the sacred principle of “one person, one vote.” Specifically, it gives a small number of voters, 40.1% in a given election, the power to block initiatives the majority of Ohioans want. It also makes it significantly more difficult for Ohioans to gather signatures for issues they care about to put them on the ballot in the first place.
Why should you Vote No in August?
Our ability to fight for a healthy environment is directly impacted by Issue 1, which will make it harder for Ohio voters to fight for clean air, land, water, and democracy through future ballot initiatives.
We all want the freedom to make decisions that affect our lives. Ballot initiatives let us exercise that freedom. But some corrupt politicians want to rewrite the rules, so they can get what they want instead of what the people want. Make no mistake, we’re facing this bad constitutional amendment in August because corrupt Ohio lawmakers want to ignore what Ohio voters actually want for their communities.
This constitutional amendment was put on the ballot by extreme special interests, including funding from an out-of-state Illinois billionaire. These extreme politicians want to permanently change Ohio’s constitution, ending majority rule and the principle of “one person one vote.” It’s a special election for special interests.
How can you take action?

Register to vote or update your registration by Monday, July 10.
Plan how you will vote! (1) vote at home by mail, (2) vote early in-person at your local county Board of Elections, or (3) vote in-person on Election Day. For the August 2023 Special Election:
If you plan to vote at home by mail, you must request your absentee ballot by 8:30pm on Tuesday, August 1. The return envelope containing your marked ballot must either be received by your county BOE prior to 7:30 PM on Election Day -or- it must be postmarked no later than August 7, 2023 and received by the board of elections no later than four days after the election (by August 12, 2023).
If you plan to vote early at your local county Board of Election, you can visit your local county Board of Elections starting on Tuesday, July 11 through Sunday, August 6.
If you plan to vote on Election Day, you must cast your ballot in your precinct at your designated polling place on Tuesday, August 8 between the hours of 6:30 a.m. and 7:30 p.m.
