Ohio Environmental Council Action Fund Endorses Malik for Mayor of Akron

The Ohio Environmental Council (OEC) Action Fund announced on Thursday the endorsement of Councilmember Shammas Malik to be the next Mayor of Akron.

“Akron is at a critical point in its history. The election for Mayor presents a unique opportunity for Akron to unite behind a new vision for the city—one that centers environmental justice, clean energy job creation, and safe communities for all,” Spencer Dirrig, director of the OEC Action Fund, said. “Councilmember Shammas Malik is the clear choice to lead the City of Akron into the future with principled leadership and innovative policies to address decades of environmental racism and degradation. This is Akron’s opportunity to chart a new course and we’re thrilled to endorse Shammas Malik to lead the way.”

“Environmental injustice has plagued the City of Akron for too long,” Carol Kauffman, president of the OEC Action Fund, said. “Councilmember Shammas Malik will lead the city forward by investing in renewable energy job creation, sustainable infrastructure and meaningful action on the climate crisis.”
